Text 8 Feb Just another manic Sunday

Today was pretty typically crazy. Kenny decided to wake up well before my alarm was set to go off, and for some reason I had decided to stay up past 1am the night before. He wouldn’t go back to sleep, so I ended up bringing him into the living-room to play for an hour or two before I even started getting ready for the day. Then about the time I was ready to leave for church, he fell asleep in my lap. So precious! Seriously, watching your own child sleep peacefully in your arms is about the most beautiful thing on earth! My heart melts every time. But it was a little annoying, since I was trying to get out the door. And of course, as soon as I get him all buckled and bundled into his carseat, he decides to wake up. He didn’t fall asleep again until after church, and that ended up being a short-ish nap. :/

Church was good, the sermon was good… after Trike’s 1/2 hour intro. Ha! No, but really, the intro was good too. I’m kinda tired and thus won’t go into details, but it will be soon available online at www.hopecc.com if you’d like to listen. Or to any of his past sermons. We are going through 1 Corinthians right now, it’s pretty sweet. There’s a lot of complicated stuff in there that’s tricksy to figure out, but Trike does a good job with presenting the various schools of thought on the issues at hand.

After church, we had to clean the apartment and get everything ready for small group (which we host and lead every Sunday). I was also trying to find a simple dessert/snack recipe to bring to the superbowl party. I ended up finding a few cereal and peanut butter bar recipes, and threw one together. It wasn’t all that bad. :) But while doing all of this, I also was watching Kenny, trying to feed him and get him to go back down and extend his nap. It didn’t happen. But he is doing really well with eating solid foods; he eats bananas and rice cereal now, and opens his mouth wide for the spoon! I’m proud of him. He’s growing up so fast! Next thing you know, he will be crawling!

Small group went very well, with Ken leading and the group getting into some really good discussions about last week’s sermon. There was also some yummy spinach-artichoke dip to be had! mmmm. :) Kenny was yawning during small group, however, and so I missed out on some of the discussions due to trying to put him down for another nap. He wouldn’t have any of it! I guess all of the exciting people in our living-room was too much fun for him to want to nap through. We tried to wrap things up early in the hopes of making it for the better part of the superbowl party at our pastor’s house, and to be courteous to the other couple(s) that had places to be.

We got to the party in time for the end of the 1/2 time show, and Kenny was still awake (he usually falls asleep easily in the car). Once the game started up again, there was a moment when a bunch of players in a tackle looked about ready to start a fist fight, and once the ref settled it, some people at the party cheered and clapped really loudly, startling Kenny and making him cry. I took him upstairs to calm down (and to attempt breastfeeding him somewhere less chaotic). Our new friends were up there with their baby, Jesse, who is the same age as Kenny. We tried for a while to put him to sleep, even bringing in the pack-n-play. He wouldn’t go to sleep though. It wasn’t until after we left that he finally fell asleep in the car. Funny story— while I was driving us home, I sat at a stop sign for like a minute waiting for it to “turn green”!!! LOL!! I’m apparently going a little bit crazy.

Now we are at home for the night, Kenny is still asleep (and still in his carseat for that matter), and life is slowing down. I don’t necessarily like all the chaos, but I do love being around the people. I’m definitely an extrovert. And they are all such awesome people to spend my day with. :) I meet with my mentor and fellow mentee tomorrow, so I’d better get some sleep eventually. Well, if facebook doesn’t get the better of me that is!
